The Dreamer

by: Stacy Blackhall

Originally printed in the Riding 4 Life 'Round Up' newsletter in June 2006

Before the days of lessons and before the barn was raised

A Dreamer sat on horseback and into the future gazed

Before the horses came here and before the clients too

A Dreamer sat on horseback and watched her dreams come true

She saw a running river and bridge that spanned its flow

And the Dreamer knew the bridge was safe to cross and so

Without looking behind her and without a map to guide

The Dreamer crossed the river and stepped to the other side

There a Ranch spread out before her; its acres broad and free

And the Dreamer looked beyond into what only she could see

She saw the rolling hills and the field of standing hay

The Dreamer saw the horses and the children hard at play

But something here was different; something was not the same

These were children the Dreamer knew, all playing a brand new game

The horses too were different; they had a special air

The Dreamer saw relationships between each happy pair

A boy who did not talk asked his horse to walk and whoa

The Dreamer watched in awe as he made his pony go

A girl who always cried and screamed foully at everyone

Well the Dreamer saw her laugh and actually have some fun

The sun began to sink and fields filled with a glow

The Dreamer was disappointed but she knew that she must go

So she crossed the running river and the bridge that lead to home

And the Dreamer left the children on the Ranch to roam

Before the days of lessons and before the barn was raised

A Dreamer sat on horseback and into the future gazed

Before the horses came here and before the clients too

A Dreamer sat on horseback and watched her dreams come true
